Journey to Kumbhe Waterfall
We embarked on our weekend trip to Harihareshwar from Pune, with our spirits high and a sense of adventure in our hearts. After crossing the scenic Tamhini Ghat, our next destination was the stunning Kumbhe Waterfall. The monsoon had just begun, and the road to Kumbhe Waterfall was enveloped in vibrant greenery on both sides. The picturesque road, in good condition, made the drive easy and comfortable. However, travelers should note that there are no stalls along the way, so it’s essential to carry your own food and water. The road offers views of rolling hills and vast landscapes, enhancing the sense of journey.
Scenic Views and and Waterfall View Points
One of the best parts about visiting Kumbhe Waterfall is that your vehicle can reach directly to the top of the waterfall, eliminating the need for a trek. This makes it an ideal spot for a picnic. Kumbhe Waterfall boasts three main viewpoints: the Top View Point, the Waterfall View Point, and the Dome View Point. The most captivating aspect of the journey to Kumbhe Waterfall is the tunnel at the beginning of the viewpoint. Traveling through this tunnel felt like an adventure, adding an element of mystery to our trip.
1. Top View Point
Upon exiting the tunnel, we reached the Top View Point. This viewpoint offers breathtaking views of the top of the waterfall, accompanied by the soothing sound of cascading water, hills blanketed in clouds, and lush greenery. From here, you can only see the top of the waterfall.

2. Waterfall View Point
To experience the full grandeur of Kumbhe Waterfall, you need to head to the Waterfall View Point, which is just 1 km away and accessible by car. We decided to venture a bit further and drove for about 10 minutes to reach this viewpoint. Once there, a short walk downhill is required to see the waterfall. Although the path is a bit slippery, the mesmerizing view of the waterfall makes it worthwhile, offering a perfect spot to spend some time.
3. Dome View Point or Risky Point
The final viewpoint, the Dome ViewPoint, offers another perspective of the waterfall. However, the road to this viewpoint is a bit risky, so we decided not to visit it. For those who prefer a more challenging adventure, this viewpoint, featured in the South Indian film “Varisu” starring Vijay, is gaining popularity. Reaching it requires descending a difficult and risky route, which we deemed avoidable.
Recently a 26 years old travel influencer from Mumbai died while treking at Kumbhe waterfall. So you have to be extremely careful while taking the Dome ViewPoint. Always take necessary precautions and avoid dangerous areas to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
Best time to visit:
The best time to visit Kumbhe Waterfall is during the monsoon season, from June to September. During this period, the waterfall is in full flow, surrounded by lush greenery that enhances its natural beauty. The rains rejuvenate the landscape, making the journey and the sight of the waterfall an unforgettable experience. For the most spectacular views and a refreshing ambiance, plan your visit during these months.
How to reach Kumbhe Waterfall
1. By Road:
Kumbhe Waterfall is conveniently accessible by road. If you’re starting from Pune, the journey to the waterfall covers approximately 124 kilometers and takes around 4-5 hours, depending on traffic and weather conditions. The route via Tamhini Ghat is particularly scenic, especially during the monsoon season. One can take state trabsport buses till mangaon bus stand. from here you can hire an auto till the waterfall.
2. By Train:
The nearest railway station to Kumbhe Waterfall is Mangaon Railway Station, located about 23 kilometers away from Mangaon. From the station, you can hire a taxi or take a local bus to reach the waterfall.
3. By Air:
The closest airport is Pune airport, which is around 124 kilometers from the waterfall. From the airport, you can rent a car or take a taxi to Kumbhe Waterfall.
