Journey to the Baneshwar Cave Temple:
Nestled at the base of Tukai Hill, the Baneshwar cave temple required a climb of approximately 250 steps from Baner gaon. The temple has a natural spring which occasionally floods the temple, adding to the temple’s allure. Aptly termed a Swayambhu (‘Svayam’ means self or voluntarily and ‘bhu’ means springing or arising) temple, Baneshwar cave temple encapsulates the essence of ‘arising on its own,’ a testament to its inherent divinity.
Baneshwar’s Identity
Baneshwar, a synonym for Lord Shiva, once housed a Swayambhu shivling, now replaced due to natural deterioration. The temple trustee took the initiative to replace the aging shivling with a new one, preserving the sanctity of the divine space.
Guardians of Time
Within the temple’s confines, Virgals, ancient victory pillars, silently bear witness to warriors’ valor, prayers to Lord Shiva, and the poignant depictions of a warrior’s transcendence to heaven. These Virgals are in bad condition and hence are carefully enclosed in glass cases to shield them from further wear, prompting contemplation on the tales etched in stone.
